My name is Theryn D. Arnold and I am a PhD candidate in Geography at York University’s Faculty of Environmental and Urban Change
My dissertation, State Power, Markets, and the Just Transition: A Comparative Study of China and Canada, compares EV battery manufacturing at NextStar Energy (Windsor, Ontario) and BYD (Shenzhen, China), examining how liberal and socialist market economy state configurations shape worker occupational health outcomes. My project draws on Marxist state theory, labour geography, and comparative political economy.
I am affiliated with the Global Labour Research Centre, the Dahdaleh Institute for Global Health Research, the York Centre for Asian Research, and the Robarts Centre for Canadian Studies. I am a member of the Canadian Association of Work and Labour Studies (CAWLS) and the Canadian Association of Geographers (CAG).
